B-Mex has developed a data-driven harvest and growth inhibition prediction system for kalanchoe cultivation. For each batch, the system predicts how much the plants will stretch, whether or not growth should be inhibited, and when the plants will be ready for harvest. This allows growers to focus more specifically on quality and scheduling, and to apply growth regulators at exactly the right time.
A camera system mounted on the spray boom automatically measures the height and maturity of the various sections of the greenhouse. Whereas growers used to conduct weekly manual spot checks, they now have a continuous, comprehensive view of the crop. A growth model combines these measurements with the expected growing conditions and predicts crop elongation at the lot level. Based on this, the system provides specific growth management recommendations and a prediction of when a crop will reach the next growth stage.
All data and recommendations are consolidated into a clear and organized dashboard. The grower always remains in control: the system makes recommendations, but the grower makes the decisions. Because the feedback is provided on a per-party basis, braking can be much more precise than before. This results in a more uniform crop, more reliable harvest planning, and more efficient use of growth regulators.
